Television's Dukes of Hazzard

Dukes trash can

The Dukes of Hazzard first appeared on CBS Jan. 26, 1979, and continued for six seasons, until Aug. 16, 1985. It revived the rural comedy genre pioneered by the Beverly Hillbillies in 1962. In this comedy series that ranked #9 in 1979 and #2 in 1980 and #6 in 1981, "Hazzard County" was located "east of the Mississippi and south of the Ohio" where Luke and Bo hot-rodded their Dodge Charger, named the "General Lee" (300 versions of this car were crashed during the six seasons) and fought against the corrupt Boss Hogg, in his white flannel suit. The success of the series generated similar shows: Lobo, Harper Valley PTA, and an animated Dukes for Saturday morning, and a wealth of merchandise such as the trash can above, sold by the producer, Warner Bros.

Cast:

"The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song was written and performed by Waylon Jennings.
